H.B. White Canada Corp, a wholly owned subsidiary of IEA, Inc. has been selected by Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation as the EPC Contractor on the Amherst Wind Farm located in Amherst, Nova Scotia. The Amherst Wind Farm is owned by Sprott Power Corporation and will bring 31.5 MW of renewable energy capacity to the Province of Nova Scotia.
The Amherst Wind Farm will consist of 15 Suzlon S97-2.1 MW wind turbines situated not far from the Nova Scotia – New Brunswick border. The Amherst project is the first wind project in North America to deploy Suzlon’s new S9X- 2.1 MW turbine platform – consisting of 95 and 97-meter rotor machines. “We have installed over 700 MW of Suzlon turbines over the past several years and are excited that HB White Canada Corp will be the first contractor in North America to install Suzlon’s new S97 wind turbine on a commercial scale wind project;” said Chris Hanson, Vice President of Operations.
The Amherst site features high efficiency doubly-fed induction generator wind turbines with a 97-meter rotor (each blade measuring 157 feet long) and the entire nacelle, rotor and hub assembly system installed on a tower at 90-meters hub height.
“Suzlon is excited to supply the new S97 turbine to Sprott Power’s Nova Scotia project which also showcases Suzlon’s expanded scope to full EPC wrap in partnership with IEA. Suzlon has enjoyed a long and effective history constructing wind farms with White and we’re certain Sprott Power will be pleased with the result.” says John Hewitt, COO of Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation. As the EPC contractor to Suzlon, IEA will be responsible for the design build of all balance of plant areas, including access roads, foundations, sub-station, collection systems and turbine erection. The project will start June 2011 and is scheduled to be complete in March 2012.
