The Challenges

The Buffalo Mountain Wind Farm built on Coal Creek Mountain a former strip mining site approximately 30 miles northwest of Knoxville.  The project consists of 15 Vestas V80 1.8 MW turbines and now produces enough electricity to power 7,991 homes annually.  Additionally the project offsets the combustion of approximately 36,925 tons of coal per year, which reduces the equivalent of 4,860 tons of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere annually.
