The Challenges

The Gray County Wind Farm was the first utility scale wind project built in Kansas.  The IEA team worked to mitigate critical risks associated with voltage control issues and worked around and through 9-11 transportation shut down and disruption.  The project consists of 170 Vestas V47 turbines and now produces enough electricity to power over 33,000 homes annually.

PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK

  • Engineer and general contractor for electrical system
  • Underground collector system and wind farm substation
  • Responsible for all electric operations, preventive maintenance, routine emergency service
