The Challenges

The Kahuku wind project is located in Oahu, Hawaii and features 12 Clipper Liberty 2.5 MW turbines.  While working on the project, IEA embraced the Hawaiian culture and participated in a blessing ceremony during project construction.  The 30 megawatt project now supplies enough electricity to power 7,700 homes annually.

PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK

  • Engineering design, procurement, and construction of civil and electrical system BOP, including the following:
  • Access roads, crane pads, crane paths, and associated infrastructure
  • Spread-footing foundations
  • 23 kV underground collector system
  • 23/46 kV step-up substation
  • Erection and mechanical completion of Clipper wind turbine generators
  • 7,000 SF O&M building
  • 10,736 SF Battery Equipment Storage System (BESS) enclosure building and installation of BESS equipment
