The Challenges

The Michigan Wind I Wind Farm is a 69 MW project located in Huron County, Michigan.  The project schedule was compressed into 9 months in order to meet an aggressive energization schedule by the project owner.  The project consists of 46 GE 1.5 megawatt turbines and now supplies enough electricity to power 18,000 homes annually.

PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK

  • Provided site safety program and management
  • Provided assistance with permit applications necessary for construction, including Part 301/303 permit package for underground collector cables and movement of crane to cross wetlands/drains
  • Prepared foundation design based on geotechnical data and water table conditions
  • Prepared civil infrastructure design, including transportation logistics for turbine delivery
  • Performed engineering and construction of civil and electrical system BOP
  • Completed erection and in-tower wiring of turbines
  • Performed civil and electrical testing
  • Designed and constructed the 34.5-kV collector system and fiber optic communication system and SCADA network
  • Designed and constructed 34.5 kV-120 kV substation to meet the requirements of the Large Generator Interconnect Agreement (LGIA)
  • Constructed 10.2 miles of access roads
  • Designed and constructed O&M building
