The Challenges

The Prarie Winds & Minot Wind II projects were built in Ward County, North Dakota.  Both projects were constructed to preserve wetlands, cultural resources and federal grasslands.  Crews on-site worked 7 days a week through severe weather in order to complete the projects in just 5 months.  The projects utilized 80 GE SLE 1.5-MW turbines and now produces enough electricity to power approximately 35,000 homes annually.

PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK

  • Engineering design, procurement, and construction of civil system BOP
  • Procurement and construction of electrical system
  • Construction of access roads, crane walks, crane paths, and associated infrastructure
  • Design and construction of foundations
  • Construction management of a substation and interconnect switchyard
  • Erection and mechanical completion of 80 GE 1.5 SLE wind turbine generators
  • Construction of 6,500 SF operations and maintenance buildings
  • Construction of fiber optics communication and SCADA network
