ENR Names Stella Wind Farm a 2019 Best Project
We are proud to announce that the Stella Wind Farm received the Award of Merit, Energy/Industrial in Engineering News-Record’s 2019 Best Projects awards program. ENR holds this program annually, and it is dedicated to honoring the best construction projects and companies. Each category is judged by an independent group of jurors who look at criteria like safety, innovation and teamwork.
IEA is the general contractor on the Stella Wind Farm. The project is a 201-megwatt energy facility situated on 23,000 acres of land along the Gulf of Mexico. This site overcame several challenges, including its remote location, tidal fluctuations, and heavy rain during building. Crews had to pump more than 17 million gallons of water away in order to keep the foundations dry, while dealing with limited connectivity and hazardous wildlife, including rattlesnakes and copperheads.
The Stella Wind Farm now supplies enough energy to power more than 60,000 homes annually.
