“There’s nothing that I’ve found I couldn’t do because I’m a woman”
Ashley Davenport, IEA’s first woman Top Out Foreman, paves the way for women in leadership on construction sites. One of the first female Top Out Foreman’s in the entire industry, Ashley sets an example of an excellent leader who highly values her crew.
On her first wind energy job, she was put on the top out crew and instantly knew it was for her. “Stepping out onto the nacelle,” Ashley said, “It was an adrenaline rush and I liked it.”
Since that first day, she’s exhibited talent and leadership that earned her promotion to her role now. Everyone that works with her rallies for her- that’s clear.
“The crew was rooting for me. Before I knew about the promotion, they knew about it. It was unanimous on the crew that I would be the best fit,” Ashley said, “Their confidence in me meant a lot, there’s a lot of people who still believe that women don’t belong in this industry.”
Ashley paves the way for women in renewables and construction in general. She realizes that representation on a site goes a long way, even to her. “Anytime I see a woman out here, it makes me feel good. We’re out here and we can do the same thing. There’s nothing on this tower that I can’t do that my guys can do.”
However, Ashley realizes the support and culture IEA provides are rare. “They have a lot of diversity here. They didn’t look at me as a girl, but as a top out hand.”
As a dedicated team player, Ashley shows she is a leader that deserves respect in every landscape she’s a part of- especially a top out erection team. She is trailblazing the way for women in construction and in renewable energy do not go unnoticed.
Ashley’s promotion and dedication are no doubt impressive. But she’s not planning on stopping anytime soon.
“Erection Superintendent is next.”
